Developing open-source virtual keyboard layouts allowing complex key combinations for Indigenous orthographies.

With Typotheque, I redesigned existing keyboards into LDML formats for submission to the open Unicode CLDR repository. Consulted with communities on improvements to keyboard output and behavior, and with Unicode and major platforms on the process for native keyboard inclusion in major operating systems.

With FirstVoices, I directly designed and updated keyboard source code, and managed a team of three in a user consultation and improvement project to update 90+ keyboards, relating to over 200 communities and 45 languages.

I can advise on the practicality of different layout styles, and technical issues related to encoding, keystroke ordering, backspacing, and standardization for young writing systems. I can communicate about technical requirements and tradeoffs with audience of many different technical backgrounds.
